Hooker Valley Track

Valley track to glacier lake below Mt Cook (3-4hrs)

Hooker Valley

This marvellous track includes three swingbridges, spectacular viewpoints and boardwalking on the hike to Lake Hooker, at the foot of the Hooker Glacier below Mt Cook.

Allow 1.5-2hrs each way and keep in mind that the alpine weather is extremely changeable. Take warm gear, snacks and liquids.

If you’ve got your own wheels, take signposted Hooker Valley Rd out to the roadend, campground and mammoth carpark.

Alternatively, start at Mt Cook Village, out front of The Hermitage Hotel, and walk out to the trailhead (allow 30 minutes).

For a short amble, the Mueller Lake Lookout is only a 15-minute walk (one-way) from the carpark.

Get updated track and weather conditions at the Visitor Centre.
