International Antarctic Centre
Learn about the 'white continent'
Learn about Antarctica in one of the five gateway cities to the ‘white continent’. Expeditions first started leaving Lyttleton Harbour in the early 1900s and these days, flights heading to ‘the ice’ leave from nearby Christchurch airport.
The centre features a chilly Antarctic storm room, penguins and huskies, plus exhibitions on early expeditions, and modern day life on Scott Base. There’s a big screen ice tour with immersive 4D theatre.
