McCashin's Brewery
Tours, tastings & meals in Stoke, Nelson
Long story.... but a goodie. Ex-All Black Terry McCashin starts NZ’s first craft beer brewery in the old Rochdale cider factory in Nelson in 1981, daring to take on the duopoly of NZ’s two big beer companies – with the blessing of Kiwi beer-drinkers and homebrewers.
McCashin is so successful with Mac’s that one of the big guys buys the brand 18 years later in 1999, starts brewing Mac’s in Wellington and establishes Mac’s Brewbars around the country.
In 2010, McCashin’s son relaunches the brewery in Nelson under its original name, McCashin’s, and starts producing popular Stoke beer. Life is good. NZ has an uncountable number of craft breweries.
Visit the historic factory, which started out as the Rochdale Cider factory in the late 1930s, and enjoy Stoke beer tastings, tours and a meal.
