Rotorua Museum & Gardens
NZ's most photographed building
An elegant spa retreat known as the Bath House from its opening in 1908 until it became the museum in 1969, the Rotorua Museum building, fronted by the Government Gardens, is one of the most photographed buildings in the country.
Unfortunately the Bath House suffered damage in the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake (Kaikoura is 650km away!) and is presently closed, needing seismic strengthening.
In the meantime, the museum is running free guided tours of Government Gardens at 11am and 2pm daily, taking in the buildings, battles and historic places of these magnificent grounds.
