Hauraki Gulf Islands
The Hauraki Gulf is the body of water between Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula, with over 50 islands in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park, administered by DoC.
Most islands are open to the public, but some are sanctuaries for endangered species with restricted access.
Visitors should consider trips to world-renowned Waiheke Island for some wine tasting and chill time, to volcanic Rangitoto for an enjoyable Rangitoto Summit Track, and to Tiritiri Matangi Island to the native bird sanctuary.
