Auckland Museum & Domain
Huge park & iconic museum
Surrounded by the sprawling green expanses of the Domain, Auckland War Memorial Museum, is one of the country’s top museums. The present neo-classical temple building opened in 1929 and houses impressive Māori and Pacific artifacts, along with the country’s history since European arrival.
The museum store features tasteful art, jewellery and gifts.
Auckland’s dawn ANZAC Day commemorations take place before the cenotaph out front of the museum building.
Surrounding the museum, the Domain features grassy expanses, sports fields and the art deco-style Wintergardens.
