Plaza Túpac Amaru
Saturday Market
The Saturday market at the Plaza Túpac Amaru is the best place in town to buy plants and gardening supplies. It also has farmers who come to town with even fresher fruits and veggies than you can buy at the daily markets. There are a lot of farmers who bring their own chocolate, coffee, honey and dried fruits and nuts.
You can try the very local dish navo con sangrecita which translates to “radish tops and blood.” It’s a lot better than it sounds. The blood is cooked like a British black pudding and doesn’t have much flavor (unless you ask for the spicy ají sauce) but it has all the iron you need for your body to make enough new red blood cells to breath better at high altitude. Above is a photo of navo con sangrecita.
Open Saturdays from 9am to 5pm
