Chinchero
The Capital of Traditional Weaving

Chinchero is most famous for highly skilled weavers and the way they make fine textiles using natural fibers and dyes. A visit to Chinchero invariably includes a weaving demonstration. These are fascinating and well worth your time. Knitters will especially love Chinchero.
There is also a famous church built on top of Inca ruins. On weekend mornings, the market near the church has a wide variety of food and artisanal products. Walk through the ruins and down to the stream to find a trail that leads to Poc Poc Waterfall.
The best place to buy weavings and to see a weaving demonstration is the non-profit Traditional Textile Center of Cusco. The main location is in Chinchero and a second location is in Cusco on Avenida del Sol.
