Machu Picchu Route 3A

Huayna Picchu route

Machu Picchu route 3A

Huayna Picchu (also spelled Waynapicchu) is the most coveted extra hike, so you can expect this to sell out quickly.

This trail is dangerous and not for everybody. It is narrow, steep, slippery and has lots of exposure. People have died falling from this trail. Do not attempt if you are afraid of heights or unsteady on your feet.

For most visitors, route 2A or 2B will be better, because you get to see more of the llaqta.

This route does not take you to the main temples in the llaqta, but you do get to see most of the lower section of the llaqta before you hike up Huayna Picchu. Read about the hike here.

Note: Be at the trailhead on the far side of the llaqta at the time your ticket says. Ticket times are staggered to prevent crowding on the narrow, slippery trail.
