Inti Punku Sun Gate
Arriving from the Inca Trail
Inti Punku means Sun Door in Quechua, but is commonly called the Sun Gate. It’s where the Inca and other dignitaries would have arrived at Machu Picchu in the 1400s.
For several years, this trail was closed to people only visiting Machu Picchu without hiking the Inca Trail from km82 or km104. In 2024 the route was reopened as route 1C.
The photo above has been marked with a black arrow where Inti Punku is and the location of the trail underlined in white.
