Andahuaylillas

Sistine Chapelle of the Americas

Andahuaylillas Church of Saint Peter the Apostle

Andahuaylillas is famous for the church of Saint Peter the Apostle, dubbed the “Sistine Chapelle of the Americas.”

Most tours that go from Cusco through the South Valley stop here. It’s certainly worth going inside.

The elaborate paintings were signed in 1626 by Luis de Riaño, disciple of the Italian painter Angelino Medoro. The church is an important stop on any Andean Baroque art tour.
