Winter: Dec, Jan & Feb
Provence, especially along the Riviera is normally pleasantly mild and quiet in the winter. During the Nice Carnival (late February and early March) and the Menton Lemon Festival however, it can be extremely busy so book early if you to visit at this time.
Inland can be much cooler during these winter months, especially at altitude, and you will need some warm clothing particularly in the evenings when it can get quite chilly. Even the coastal regions to the west the Riviera can be quite cool especially when the Mistral blows!
Flower Festivals
Various other resorts along the Riviera have flower festivals in February which make a great day out. Referred to as a 'Bataille des Fleurs' or Battle of flowers they consist of floral processions where young ladies throw flowers to spectators along the route. Other towns holding similar floral events are Vence, Bormes-les-Mimosas, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Antibes.
