Monte Carlo Rally
The ultimate European motor rally (late-Jan)
The Monte Carlo Rally takes place in late January each year and is organised by the Automobile Club de Monaco which is also responsible for the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Legendary event
This legendary event used to set off from four different centres throughout Europe and ‘rally’ or meet in Monte Carlo. Since 1992 the Rally has taken place in south east France, mostly in the Ardêche, the Riviera and Nice Beyond. An exception was made in 2013 with competitors starting from Warsaw, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Reims and Barcelona.
Col de Turini
There are special stages in the Rally but the Col de Turini is one of the most famous. It takes place at night, usually on ice and snow over the steep mountain road from la Bolléne-Vésubie to Sospel and involves many hairpin bends.
So if you happen to be in the area in late January take yourself up into the Mercantour! You will enjoy some of the most exciting motor sport available!
