Vallée-de-la-Vésubie
Dramatic Gorges & Olive Groves
The Vésubie Valley is thought of by many as one of the prettiest valleys in the region. It stretches from the river’s confluence with the River Var near Levens for 45km/28mi to its source deep into the Mercantour. Furthermore, it is fed by several fast flowing streams including the Gordolasque and Le Boréon.
Dramatic gorges and olive groves
The lower valley up to St-Jean-la-Rivière appears very dramatic with vertical walls and a deep gorge.
From St-Jean to Lantosque however, the middle valley is characterised by terraced fields. This gives it a decidedly Mediterranean look with its olive groves and vineyards.
Alpine Scenery
The upper valley from Roquebillière and on past St-Martin-Vésubie is much more alpine. Green pastures, woodland, waterfalls and high mountains characterise this section and moreover, it is here that it enters the Mercantour itself.
