Gard Provençal & Montpellier

The Gard Provençal is the link between Provence to the east and the Languedoc hills to the west. It stretches from the banks of the Rhône to the Monts d'Ardèche in the North and to the Gorges of the River Gardon in the South.

It includes several locations which are well worth exploring from Barjac in the North to Uzès and the stupendous Pont du Gard further South. While the great city of Nîmes is just south of the Gardon River, I have included it because there are so many fine things to see in what is essentially a Provençal city.

The Gard which is actually a Département of the Région of Occitanie has a population of about 742,000 and a land area of 5853 square km.

Note Montpellier is in the Hérault département.
