Hanbury Gardens
A garden lover’s paradise at La Mortola
Arguably among the finest gardens in Italy and situated at La Mortola, on the edge of the Mediterranean. Between Menton in France and Ventimiglia in Italy, the Giardini Hanbury is an idyllic spot and a must for any garden lover.
The gardens were created during the late 19th century by the wealthy English businessman Sir Thomas Hanbury.
Exotic Plants
Hanbury settled here after his travels and filled these wonderful gardens with exotic plants from around the world. Unfortunately, after his death, the gardens deteriorated but they have now been restored to their full glory by Genoa University.
The gardens slope down towards the sea from the entrance. Along the way discover collections of agaves, aloes and cypresses. Presently you will arrive at the Fontana del Drago (Dragon Fountain), the Villa Hanbury (not open to the public) and the splendid terraces with their themed gardens.
