Drôme Provençale
The Drôme Provençale is basically the southern part of the Drôme Département which is actually in the Région of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. It borders in the south with the Vaucluse and in the east with the Hautes-Alpes and Alpes de Haut-Provence.
The main towns are Nyons with its Medieval bridge over the River Eygues and also Montélimar where you can indulge your passion for Nougat if you like that kind of thing!
The other unusual feature of the area is the small enclave of Vaucluse situated between Nyons and Montélimar and known as the L'Enclave des Papes. The main commune is Valréas and it was bought by the Pope during the period of the Avignon Papacy due to the quality of its wine rather like the Comtat Venaissan further south and with which it has connections.
