Kinlochewe

Little village with a National Nature Reserve

Rainbow in the morning

Apart from offering services to passing travellers, the tiny village of Kinlochewe is the gateway for the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve, whose pinewood-clad mountains are home to thriving bird life - including pine martens, buzzards and golden eagles.

A seasonal visitor centre on the A832 north of Kinlochewe has info on local hikes. These include an easy mile-long route from it’s doors and a 4-mile loop up to a windswept cairn for fine views over Loch Maree.

Food & lodging

The Kinlochewe Hotel (peak season twin: £135) is the main option, with a range of mid-priced and budget accommodation and bar food.

During the day look out for the Whistle Stop Cafe for cheap slap-up meals in the old village hall.
