East Neuk
A series of pretty fishing villages.
"Neuk" is Scots for corner, and the East Neuk refers to the southeastern corner of the Fife peninsula. It's a bit off the beaten path, so the string of villages its coast have tended to retain their traditional feel.
Elie & Crail
Elie and Crail are possibly the quaintest, and popular with artists. The Crail Museum (62/64 Marketgate South – this entry’s map location; Jun–Sept Daily; Oct Sat & Sun) has visitor information and an insight into past times hereabouts.
Elie Chainwalk
In Elie the key attraction is the Chainwalk - an exciting 1.5-mile (2.5 km) route around the cliffs west of town that involves steep carved steps and chains bolted into rock to provide high-tide access between coves. Start from the western edge of Elie, walking out along the beach before heading up onto the cliffs. Follow a path to the headland, then descend to sea level, to return along the chainwalk. The chains are inaccessible for two hours at high tide and unnecessary at low tide. Check tides here.
