Glenshee
Low-key ski resort & summer hikes
Straddling a lonely mountain pass, Glenshee is a compact but varied ski area that offers more runs than any other in Scotland: 38.
It may lack the big-mountain feel of Cairn Gorm, Nevis or Glencoe, but when the snow is good, and it's not a busy weekend day, skiing here can be a delight. Being able to explore three different adjacent zones is a particular bonus.
Facilities include lessons, ski hire (long waits at peak times - so consider hiring at shops en route or in advance) and a cafeteria.
Summer
One lift operates in summer (£10/14 single/return) to allow hikers easy access up the 933m Cairnwell summit from which a path descents along a ridge and back down to the centre in a couple of hours hiking.
