Royal Dornoch Champ'ship Course

Classic seaside golf, but a bit remote

3rd green

Lying beside the sandy Dornoch Firth, with the Highlands on the horizon and golden gorse bushes flowering between holes, Royal Dornoch (6595 yards/par 70) is a very pretty spot.

It’s also a place with real golfing history, since records show people have been swinging clubs here since the 1600s. And though the greens – which date back to 1877 – are maintained to a high standard, there’s still a very natural feel to the course. It feels like every feature follows the natural contours of the dunes.

However, located 50miles (80km) north of Inverness, Royal Dornoch is a course that too remote for most, which helps add to its legendary status and encourages an easy going feel – absent at Scotland’s other major courses.
