Glenapp Castle

Extravagant accommodation & dining (l,d; £££)

Glenapp From Azalea Pond

Late-19th-century castle set in 36 acres of fairy-tale gardens and woodlands on the rugged and beautiful Ayrshire coast. Here views extend over the Irish Sea, to include the Isle of Arran.

The interiors are nothing short of sumptuous, and well illustrated on website, where there’s also much info about the superb restaurant. Here Michelin chef Adam Stokes delivers impressive gourmet food; with a six-course dinner and bottle of wine for two running around £150.

Hotel facilities don’t actually include a spa, though there's one close by and there are tennis courts.

Note too that advance reservation for both rooms and dining is necessary: that’s when you’re provided with directions on how to find the castle. Without them, you’re unlikely to find the very discreet entrance!
