Abbotsford

Sir Walter Scott's home

From the Tweed, Abbotsford, Scotland-LCCN2001703568

This eccentric stately home was built as the dream home of novelist Sir Walter Scott and reflects his romantic vision of Scotland.

Walls bristle with arms and armour and it's packed with all sorts of historical memorabilia. Among them are a lock of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s hair, a crucifix of Mary, Queen of Scots and Rob Roy’s sword.

Scott's library of over 9,000 rare books is also impressive.
