Falkland Palace
Anyone for real tennis?
Falkland, the former home of Mary Queen of Scots was also the country residence for a series of Stuart kings.
Their royal bedchambers survive, as do a series of impressive 17th-century tapestries.
More unique and intriguing, however, is the presence of the oldest (1539) real tennis court still in use.
Real tennis is a forerunner of the modern game, but now more similar to raquetball or squash.
