Discovery Point
A British Antarctic Expedition ship revealed
The 1901–4 Antarctic Discovery Expedition has become famous as the first of many heroic, if ultimately tragic, British missions to the South Pole, and the multimedia exhibition at Discovery Point does a fine job of conveying all this.
The original footage it uses is compelling and modern computer imaging impressive. Yet, despite all this, the highlight of a visit remains a tour of the RSS Discovery herself: the boat was built here and took Scott, Shackleton and Co. on their first, and relatively successful, expedition.
Joint tickets are offered for Discovery Point and the Verdant Works, an old jute mill that's been refurbished to house a museum of the textile industry that used to dominate Dundee.
