Wildlife
The best place to see wildlife in its natural habitat is in Thailand’s national parks, of which there are now over 150, covering almost 20 per cent of the country’s land area.
Khao Yai was the first national park to be established and is still the best place for definite sightings of many animals such as gibbons and hornbills.
The dense forests of Khao Sok National Park harbour bears, gaurs, tapirs and many other mammals, which you’ll have a better chance of spotting by joining a tour.
Doi Inthanon is a favourite destination for birders, particularly in the cool season when many species migrate there.
Sadly, some wild creatures such as monkeys and snakes are trained to perform tricks in shows, while at other attractions tigers act like docile house cats for selfies, and are no longer wild.
