Stylish, eclectic choice in small portions (l,d; £££)

A newish and unique additon to the York restaurant scene, Skosh specialises in small portions of food, on the basis that you can mix and match according to your appetite, Japanese-style.

The unpreposessing darkish exterior (blink and you'll miss it as you walk by) belies the foodie treats within.

The selection of dishes varies, but is generally a highly inventive and creative take on fusion food, prepared in a relaxed, open-plan environment. The high quality of the ingredients and the care taken in their preparation is reflected in the upmarket pricing.

Vegetarians will find a fairly limited selection of mains.

TIP Recent food awards have contributed to the popularity of Skosh, so, particularly in the evenings, it's advisable to book.
