York Brewery

Where Yorkshire Terrier meets Centurion's Ghost

After a time of drought, York again had a brewery of its own when the York Brewery opened in 1996.

A small brewery with a 20 barrel brew plant and a selection of five different beers, the brewery itself had a tap room to try the products and provided guided tours of the premises.

Unfortunately, the company had to vacate its historic premises and is currently considering its options for relocation in York.

Fans of their beers have been relieved that brewing of their beers has continued in Masham, in the Yorkshire Dales. The brewery and its pubs in York are now part of the Masham company, Black Sheep Ales.

The brewery now has only one pub in the city, The Three Legged Mare near the Minster. Their Yorkshire Terrier beer has won awards and has a growing band of loyal fans.
