The Three-legged Mare
A modern-style pub, yet with local real ales
Close by Bootham Bar, a pub that's a real alternative to the traditional atmosphere of pubs such as the York Arms, opposite. Its decor is bright and light, with a wood floor. It has no fruit machines, and no piped music
This is a York Brewery pub, established only a few years back. It not only has all the house beers, but a wide selection of other British and continental offerings, highlighting real ales. And on top of that, it boasts its very own unique brew, Wonkey Donkey.
This is an adult-only pub, with helpful, friendly staff. Though it has no piped music, it does have live music nights. On Sundays there is usually a blues guitarist, for example, and Fridays they often have music too.
The pub isn't particularly known for its food, though it does provide sandwiches and soup at lunchtimes, and a tapas selection from 6pm-9pm.
In the evening, the pub can get quite full, though there is a conservatory and a rear yard.
TIP If you want to know where the pub gets its name from, look in the yard for the gruesome information. Macabre choice, but in keeping with the other York Brewery pub, The Last Drop.
