Evensong
As evening draws in
Evensong is an Anglican church service held in late afternoon. In larger churches such as the Minster, it is usually sung and uses the order set out in the Book of Common Prayer (1549).
At York Minster, choral evensong is sung by the choir, which walks across to the Minster from the Minster Song School next door. Many visitors find it an atmospheric event, particularly in the darker months of the year.
Service details can be confirmed on the board at the Minster entrance, or on the website's calendar. Make your way to the choir for this service.
TIP For purposes of worship, such as evensong, there is no admission charge to the Minster.
TIP In the minster, evensong is usually a sung service, mostly by the minster choir. To check if it will be sung on a particular day, call 01904 557200
