City Screen

Central cinema with events & cafe-bar (l,d; ££)

SFD_womaninblack-6422

Housed in a converted newspaper printing press tucked away next to the river, off Coney Street, this trendy three-screen cinema shows both current blockbusters as well as foreign and art house movies.

Live broadcasts of stage and opera performances from other venues are now proving to be a big draw at this Picturehouse cinema.

In addition, downstairs a thriving café bar serves drinks (fairtrade organic coffee) and a variety of light meals. Reliably good food with plenty of veggie options. Weekend brunch (around £12), full menu (£20).

Restaurant often very full at peak mealtimes, though in summer there is a riverside terrace, too.

The basement includes an internet bar and hosts a regular programme of live events such as stand-up comedy evenings.

Online bookings via website. (Booking charge applies both to online and for the premium number phone reservations.)
