Park and Ride

A city not built for cars

During the day, the centre of the city is largely given over to pedestrians and footstreets. Both short-stay and long-stay car parks are signposted around the city, but these aren't cheap.

If your visit is for a day only, you're best leaving a car on the outskirts at one of the park and ride sites. (No overnight parking)

The locations offer free parking, and regular electric shuttle bus services to the centre of town. All buses are wheelchair accessible. Both sites and buses provide wifi access. Cycling in is another convenient (and free) option, with bike parking provided.

There are currently six p+r sites, dotted around the outer ring road (see map). All are signposted as you approach York.

These are the appropriate sites when approaching York:

From Harrogate (A59): Poppleton Bar or Rawcliffe Bar

From Leeds (A64) Askham Bar or Designer Outlet
