Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA)
Edgy exhibitions by Circular Quay
Sydney’s answer to London’s Tate Modern, the MCA spotlights contemporary artists in an Art-Deco waterfront conversion.
While international artists are represented in both the rotating permanent collection and temporary shows, there’s an ever-growing emphasis on Australian art. This includes works by contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.
MCA’s rooftop cafe offers prime-time views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, while the museum store stocks fantastic Australian-designed jewellery, homewares, textiles, bags and more.
The museum flanks The Rocks, Australia’s oldest urban neighbourhood.
