Harrison’s Cave & Adventure Park
Adventure-in-nature theme park
There’s plenty to entertain the family for a good half day in and around Harrison’s Cave: a fascinating underground cavern, a zipline and adventure challenge course, some rum tasting, a short nature trail and several places to pick up a drink or a bite to eat. This adventure-in-nature theme-park-style entertainment, however, is packed into a relatively small space, and heavily commercialised.
One of Barbados’ top attractions, Harrison’s Cave itself is the most extensive and spectacular of the cave systems that riddle the coral limestone crust that covers the island. Wonderful if you’re new to caves, but less impressive if you’ve plenty of experience with stalagmites and stalactites.
After a short video, the 40min tour aboard an electric “tram” (pictured above) gives some insights into the country’s geology. Once underground, you pass through illuminated chambers full of beautiful calcitic formations, culminating in the impressive Great Hall. There are photo stops along the way.
