Atlantis Historic Inn
Great buffet & breathtaking views (b,l,d; $$–$$$)
High above Tent Bay on the East Coast sits the Atlantis Historic Inn, one of Barbados’ oldest existing hostelries, built in the 1880s, when the railway was constructed across the island. Its history is well documented in photos and text across the hotel walls. Totally refurbished in 2009, its shuttered windows were restored and a wonderfully breezy dining terrace added, offering you magnificent views of the thunderous surf as you dine.
Sunday lunch buffet
The biggest crowds flock to the East Coast for the legendary all-you-can-eat Caribbean Sunday lunch buffet: fresh fish, pulled pork, pepperpot, pumpkin fritters, plantain and the like.
Breakfast buffet
The last Sunday of the month, the hotel also hosts a sumptuous breakfast buffet (though the menu is more brunch than breakfast) combining the usual cooked breakfast treats of eggs, bacon and sausages, with Bajan favourites such as buljol and flying fish, plus waffles or pancakes piled high with fruit and cream. Get here early since by 10am they’re starting to prepare for lunch.
