Irie Foods
Jamaican fah real! (b,l,d; $)
This is as close to Jamaica as you can get in Barbados, from the goat curry, jerk meat and flaky patties (pies) right down to the Red Stripe beer and Appleton rum to wash down your meal. Filling, tasty portions of authentic Jamaican home-cooking are served at very reasonable prices (most under BD$40) in this friendly, casual place.
Try the savoury Jamaican breakfast of saltfish and ackee with breadfruit and festivals (pictured above), which is guaranteed to leave you feeling irie (‘fine’, in colloquial Jamaican) – as the restaurant name promises. Bajan and full English breakfasts are also served.
Opt for the cheerier outdoor setting on the Rastafarian-coloured wooden chairs, rather than the more antiseptic air-conditioned dining room, which even pictures of Bob Marley and Usain Bolt can’t enliven.
Note: Take-aways are also possible and you can even find some frozen dishes at the Massey supermarkets in Warrens and Holetown.
