Martin's Bay & Tavern

Thursday afternoon lime (b,l,d; $)

Tucked away in a rugged cove, the fishing community of Martin’s Bay knows how to party, and its Thursday afternoon lime – which may extend well into the night – is legendary.

The Bay Tavern is the hub of activity, serving up fresh fish with mounds of Bajan staples, rum on the rocks and bottles of chilled Banks. ‘Dining’ is at picnic tables outside the tavern – alas the ones on the grass have collapsed. The picturesque pebble-strewn shore is a good place for the kids to paddle and play if they get bored.

As evening approaches, the queues for food get longer, the tables and parking more crowded and the volume increases. If you want a quieter experience, drop by earlier in the week – on Fridays, the place may be recovering from the night before.

You can hike south from here along the old railway line route to Bath Beach, or north to Bathsheba.
