Shakers

Converted chattel house (d; $–$$)

This is a top choice for a fun meal out in a converted chattel house down an unlikely back street off the South Coast road. Shakers Bar & Grill is a casual no-frills place, with a few fairy lights round its small patio the only real decorative touch.

The menu too is simple – catch of the day every which way, barbecued chicken or ribs with the usual sides – but everything is fresh off the grill and tastes delicious. And the vibe is good, especially after a few cocktails.

Plus, prices are reasonable, which makes the place popular with Bajans too. Start the evening with some popcorn shrimp and rum sours, which are top drawer, and leave room for an indulgent dessert. Staff are friendly and efficient, and with only a handful of tables inside and out, it’s advisable to book a spot in advance.

Note: Cash only.
