Dartmouth
Boat trips & historic buildings
Dartmouth is one of Devon’s prettiest towns. Its houses line the hilly banks of a River Dart that’s alive with bustling ferries and graceful yachts.
The village of Kingswear is on the river’s east bank. The two settlements are linked by the Higher Ferry and Lower Ferry. These provide a handy shortcut to Torbay and Coleton Fishacre, but in summer the queues can be long.
Historic Buildings
Timber-framed townhouses dating from the 1600s century edge Dartmouth’s waterfront, many brightly-painted with ornate carvings.
The Butterwalk is a row of dramatically-slanting 17th century buildings propped up by pillars. It’s home to the absorbing maritime exhibits of Dartmouth Museum.
