Tarr Steps Walks

Hike to an Exmoor icon (2–12 miles)

Tarr Steps, Exmoor

If you fancy a longer walk after strolling across Exmoor’s ancient Tarr Steps bridge, look out for the 2-mile circular trail that winds through the steeply–sloping valley.

The trail crosses the River Barle on Tarr Steps, then shadows the water as it snakes northwest through woods. At Westwater Copse you re-cross the Barle via a footbridge and make your way back to the steps.

There’s also a seven mile circular walk from Tarr Steps taking in Withypool. And a 12 mile circular hike to Tarr Steps from Dulverton – ask at the National Park Visitor Centre for a booklet.

After all that walking, the Tarr Farm inn is on hand to offer refreshments.
