Périgord Blanc
The White Périgord
The Périgord Blanc or White Périgord is the central part of the Périgord.
It contains the capital and Dordogne’s main city, Périgueux and gets the “white” part of its name from the many outcrops of chalky limestone that proliferate around the countryside.
Périgueux
Many visitors come to the White Périgord to visit Périgueux in order to see its unusual Byzantine Cathedral of St Front, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as some well preserved Roman ruins such as the Tour de Vesonne. Moreover, nearby is the not to be missed renaissance jewel of the Château des Bories.
Also in the White Périgord is the Château de Hautefort
