West Runton
Sand & shingle beach with rock pools & fossils
A small sand & shingle beach between the towns of Sheringham and Cromer on the North Norfolk Coast. It is edged by sandstone cliffs which are liable to erosion, and it was in these cliffs that the spectacular fossilised West Runton steppe mammoth skeleton was found in 1990.
The beach is popular with surfers and divers who enjoy exploring the chalk reef within the sea.
West Runton beach is good place for exploring rock pools and trying to find fossils along the beach itself. The tide can go out quite a long way.
Facilities
Facilities are limited to a beach cafe and toilets. There is one car park which can get very crowded in high summer.
West Runton is only accessible by car using the A148 and local roads, or by public transport.
