Edinburgh Zoo
First-class zoo, now with giant pandas...
Edinburgh zoo’s home to some 1,000 animals including endangered species like Indian rhinos, bongos, chimps and maned wolves.
But the real crowd pullers are the handsome penguin colony (which you can watch swimming underwater; and, more curiously, do walks around the zoo with their keepers!), and two giant pandas.
The pandas arrived in 2011, with much razzmatazz and parading dignitary, on a 10-year loan from China. You’ll need to book and print tickets out at home to see them – see the zoo website. The Pandas' popularity means you need a ticket with a viewing time. As this comes with entrance tickets, buy them online in advance to ensure a convenient time slot.
