Cycling
Cycling around Edinburgh can be excellent, though it's easy to get caught out by tricky road layouts, hills, cobbles and the weather. But once you know your way around it can easily be the quickest form of transport and a very pleasant way to explore beyond the centre.
Cyclepaths
Cyclepaths following old railway lines are a real strong point, making it possible to cycle a 20-mile loop around the centre that barely touches regular roads.
Such a loop could take in various bits of glorious seafront-riding at Crammond and Portobello and if you're really energetic, you could take the road around Arthur's Seat too – it's closed to all other traffic on Sundays.
