Võsu
Rustic resort with a beach
Strung out along the southern shores of Käsmu Bay (Käsmu laht), 8km north of Palmse, the village of Võsu has been a holiday resort since the late nineteenth century, when its pine-fringed beach was discovered by the St Petersburg intelligentsia. This uneventful little place functions really well as a laid-back beach resort: there is plenty of accommodation and it is a good base for further exploration.
Within striking distance lie wood-shrouded Oandu and the fishing village of Altja, both reached via a 10km-long forest trail starting at the southern entrance to Võsu, while the Käsmu peninsula, strewn with erratic boulders, is just 8km northwest.
