The Noblessner Quarter
Occupying a former Tsarist Russian shipyard where submarines were built, the Noblessner Quarter is a relatively new shoreline neighbourhood in which former industrial buildings have been put to contemporary use. Incorporating residential apartments and business premises, it also has shops, restaurants, cafés and a marina.
The quarter gets its name from shipyard founders Emanuel Nobel (nephew of Alfred) and Arthur Lessner, who together built 12 submarines for the Imperial Russian navy between 1913-1917.
Along with a wealth of industrial architecture, the Kai Arts Center and the PROTO Invention Factory provide the quarter with some headline sightseeing content.
The quarter’s most important social areas are the quayside and a central “square” hosting seasonal events and festivals. The range of food and drink on offer draws visitors throughout the year.
