Cafes
As well as offering a full range of coffees and teas, Estonian cafés often serve a range of hot meals as well as drinks. Cafés are often cheaper places to eat than Restaurants, and are much less formal: you usually order your fare at the counter rather than waiting for service.
Cafés also serve up a mouth-watering array of sweets, many of which crop up on restaurant menus too. The satisfyingly smooth mannapuder (semolina pudding) is a traditional staple, served at breakfast time as well as throughout the day, and frequently garnished with local fruits and berries.
If you need a snack to go alongside your coffee then you’ll never be far away from a sticky bun (sai) or slice of cake (kook) - the latter is a blanket term covering everything from chocolate torte to cheesecakes and fruit flans. One local delicacy you’ll see in the best bakeries and delicatessens is kringel, a sweet loaf filled with dried fruit.
