In general France has a huge range of accommodation, with the market split three ways:

Budget: offerings include Hostels in many central locations such as Paris, Lyon and Bordeaux homestays (Airbnb and the like) a little further out can be a good, cheaper alternative for a longer stay. France has an extensive network of camping and caravan sites and there is usually a good choice around cities. Even small towns and villages have have their own run by a mix of local authorities and private enterprise.
