Beaulieu-sur-Mer

Located on the Baie des Fourmis between Nice and Monaco and protected from the Mistral wind, this peaceful and fashionable resort benefits from a climate said to be the warmest on the Riviera.

Gordon Bennett Was Here

Beaulieu boasts an association with the US property tycoon Gordon Bennett. During the late 19th century Bennett wanted to help the then impoverished local community financially. He was politely turned down by the proud citizenry who later named the Corniche from Villefranche to Beaulieu after the great man.

Beaulieu’s other claim to fame is that it was the location for the 1988 film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine.

Two Nice Walks

If you feel energetic during your visit there is a choice of two walks. Firstly the moderately strenuous Sentier du Plateau St-Michel starts from Boulevard Edouard VII but includes a steep climb. If you need something less taxing then try the Promenade Maurice-Rouvier. This walk involves a pleasant stroll along the coast from Beaulieu to St-Jean Cap-Ferrat . Allow approximately two hours and one hour respectively.

Don’t miss: the Villa Grecque Kérylos which is a reconstruction of a Greek villa from Antiquity. This accurate replica was designed and built in 1902 by the archaeologist Théodore Reinbach.
