Grottes de la Roc de Cazelle at Les Eyzies
Cave of the Roc de Cazelle at Les Eyzies
The Grottes du Roc de Cazelle is located just outside Les Eyzies on the Petite Beaune stream which is a tributary of the river Vézère.
These caves are in the cliff face and were in continuous use from the Stone Age, through the middle ages when it was a fortress, right up to the 1960s when the last farmers, who actually lived in a monolithic house, left the site.
A marked trail with sound effects has been created to enable the visitor to appreciate the way folks used to live in troglodyte communities. Children in particular will appreciate the sounds of forest animals.
